As we approach the final days of the Timico data centre build the lads are putting down the tarmac in the car park. This is quite convenient as I happened to be in need of a steam roller – assuming that’s what they still call them despite the absence of steam. If you can’t get the video below to work then there’s a link here to the original YouTube location.
Here are a few other photos mapping the before and after. There’s a prize of the best caption for the “after” shot – entries left as comments please 🙂
Site manager Nigel has a word with the driver of the roller. In case you were wondering my 14 year old plays the trumpet. He found this in a skip at his school and decided it would go well on his bedroom wall in a slightly altered state
Just to finish off an artistic view of the air conditioning fans outside the data centre:)

That’ll stop you playing sharp
………….and now for Sonia!
“No longer can i blow my own trumpet”
“No I wanted a b-flat not for it to be flat…”
I was just about to add a ‘b flat trumpet’ comment but it wasn’t as good as @JamesBlessing’s so I’ll leave it!
“Dad, it looked better before…” !
Miles Davis learnt his lesson the hard way. Never cross someone who owns a steamroller.
Its at times like this I wish I was witty. I am never gonna win a mug at this rate.
“He did what to the trumpet?! All I said was ‘data travels at the speed of light, not the speed of sound…'”
Roll another flat one baby
My vote’s with Lynn White but Tref won’t get it as he doesn’t watch ‘Enders ;-))
This is v true though re “Enders” I will be asking a team of independent judges to vote on the entries on Friday afternoon
This trumpet sounds a bit flat… or sharp, depending on how you look at it 😉
That’s the last time I play backing for Bobby Crush
Btw while I remember if anyone has any suggestions for other things to flatten by all means make them known. Might not still have the steam roller but I do have a sledge hammer.
That’s blown it!!!
Roll over Beethoven!
Flat rate data was all the rage… especially for music fans!
I’d be severely Brassed Off if that was my trumpet 😀
This Christmas the Salvation Army Band were flat out !
Tref’s efforts to improve the sound made by the road-roller end badly.
Working “flat” out , to build this “up beat” centre
It’s clearly a metaphor for our economy.
Oh wait :), another.. well this isn’t a caption, just a joke that came to mind.
What’s the difference between somebody who knows how to play a trumpet and one who doesn’t? Nothing now that you’ve broken the only trumpet, they’re both out of a job.
As Timico get ready to find some “brass in pocket” for selecting the band for the Grand Opening Ceremony of the Data Centre, The Rolling Stones have just backed out along with Bay City Rollers, Flat Eric, Squeeze !!
Just add water
btw I’m going to look for a suitable comment voting plug in for future competitions. There are some great entries here that merit a vote by the general public so that it is completely transparent. As it is will probably debate the result via Google Hangout
…….and finally, as work nears completion for Timico’s new Data Centre in historic Newark, site workers discover remains from the “Brass Age”
… Salvador Dali would be proud!
I am pleased to announce the winner and runners up of the caption competition.

Manofpie with, “thats blown it!”

We had some very good entries for this one and it wasn’t easy for the judge (he who owned the trumpet). Becasue of this we have decided to add a highly commended section and these will also get a mug (assuming I can find some 🙂
Can the prize winners please email or DM me their addresses and I will send in the post.
