Some more photographic action from the new data centre – we get the keys next week and today we have been in doing some preparation.
Firstly we installed a small server with some basic utilities to get us up and running when the meaty kit arrives on Monday.
Then we made a cup of tea – the first in the new kitchen – yay.
OK question for you. How many engineers does it take to install a switch? Click on the photo of Will to find out.
Last but not least ever wondered what a 10Gig fibre connection looks like? Well prepare to be disappointed – see below.

wow. tea and fibre. lucky sod.
I was actually honoured to be able to install the first piece of kit in to our Data Centre, moving moment!
Surely Will the person who held the hardware as you screwed it in the rack would be the fist person? 😉
One cable for 10Gig Tref. Surely that’s a single point of failure??
I would say that two cables going in to the same rack would be a worry wouldn’t you?
Yes, just imagine if someone ran over them with a trolley or something.
Adam,
We don’t allow food and drink in the data halls and a tea trolley would be completely out of the question.
Tref 🙂
Shouldn’t you be using trolleys to carry the heavy equipment around on? Ian is a very weak young man remember 🙂
Looking good anyway Tref. Look forward to my tour at some point 🙂
Tref is that a timico doughnut your stood in, or a reception desk which looks like its built the wrong way round?
It’s actually a fine bit of British craftsmanship, hand built using traditional techniques and assembled in situ by members of the Guild of Mastercraftsmen at the pinnacle of their careers who will look back at this point in time and remember it as their finest hour 🙂
And then you took a bite out the finely crafted doughnut 😉 PS is it actually your new desk?
No Rupertrogue. It was designed for the new office of Calum Malcom, our Group Operations Director whose room is the only one big enough to take it 🙂 However Calum at the last minute opted for the jacuzzi with the artificial putting green next to it so the receptionist got the desk.
Where is this new DC, then ?
Newark
the guy in the green coat is liking that server in the pic… getting quite intimate with it if you ask me 😉
You made some respectable points there. I regarded on the internet for the problem and located most people will associate with along with your website.
