It’s been a tough one but boy have we got some great pics in the trefor.net phone photo competition. The standard of entries was very high and the judges have had to be brutal in the shortlisting process.
For total transparency the judges were myself and Scott Wroe – Timico’s head of graphic design. Neither of us entered the competition ourselves. We had around 150 entrants and although I did suggest that we would have a separate class for “edited” photos in reality most of the entries were straight off the camera so we have bundled them all into one single mega category. If you entered but have been left out of the short list I’m sorry about that but we have tried to be as objective as we can.
I did get a few suggestions for a polling process but to keep things simple and to allow you to give your views on the photos I’ve decided that voting will take place using the “comment” method. In other words chose a single winner and leave a comment telling me which picture you think that winner should be. By all means tell us what you think or how you went about chosing that particular photo as your winner.
You have until 5pm Lincolnshire time on Friday 27th July which is when the Olympic games start and when I go on holiday. I will count up the votes at that time and tell you who the winner is.
One vote per person please. A person is defined by a discrete email address. By all means get your friends to vote for you. Please don’t abuse the process by conjuring up multiple email accounts and voting for yourself many times. This is a white hat blog and its readers are trusted.
I will award as many prizes as looks right. If there are 5 photos that get far more votes than the rest then there will be 5 prizes – Timico mugs. The standard of the competition has been so high that it merits a better first prize than the mug. I will take the winner out for a curry or simlar provided that person is within sensible easy reach. Perhaps we can meet in London or somewhere.
We have had entries from as far afield as India, Indonesia and New Zealand. A meal out won’t be practical in these cases so if you win you will have to settle for the mug and the deep satisfaction of knowing that you have won a major international photographic competition which will be forever visible as long as this blog remains on the world wide web.
My thanks to all of you who took the trouble to enter and good luck to all those on the shortlist. Get voting…
PS I’ll sort out the prizes when I get back from holiday.

I won’t vote as I may (or not) be in the shortlist.
As a Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society I can say that I am truly impressed by the standard of entries. Some of you out there have a great eye for composition.
Good luck all.
Buzz
Photo 2 is my favourite!
I vote for #1 – the Shard! Fabulous pics!
its a tough one but I am going for 5, it’s the most thought provoking and perhaps the least doctored by a photo app, it looks like a sad bear or maybe an angry one pending on your state of mind;~)
No. 2 please 🙂
Photo 6 – beautiful composition, excellent timing.
I like them all! But I’d go for number 6, I agree with Anne, above – excellent timing.
6 for me, too.
I vote 4.
Photo 11
Photo 2 Tref!
picture #1 without a doubt!
There are some fantastic shots here, but my vote goes to number 12.
Number 2
I vote for number 6.
Number 8 for me tref. Although if you are using the single transferable voting system, then I would want Number 10 as my close run second……
Interesting collection though…..no clear winner and very high standard.
I can sense a Trefor.net calandar coming on!

I vote for number 3.

I did think of doing a calendar with these pics – maybe give proceeds to a charity

Boo, none of my pics made the shortlist but all the above are fantastic but my vote goes to Pic 2.
Photo 12, love the action, energy under control. Great capture
Quick count up:
Photo six is leading with 6 votes
Photos one and two are joint second with 4 votes
Photos three and eight have 2 votes
Four, Five, ten, eleven, twelve and fourteen have 1 a piece, and the rest are yet to score.
Not giving away which one is mine, but I’ll need to work hard to get that mug 🙂
i vote for #14
Edit: Make that 2 votes for twelve.
*must post faster!*
Philip – they are mostly iPhones and Samsungs with the odd Sony Ericsson, Nokia and a BlackBerry thrown in.
Will – plenty of time for voting – it would be nice to think we could get up into the hundreds of votes by the deadline so that we can have a clear mandate for the winner
Another vote for #2 🙂
Casting a vote on behalf of the OH… He votes no. 2.
Photo 3
All lovely, but no 6 is my favourite
#11 – just for being fun. Great photos.

I would go for photo 11 . I love the colours and patterns.
Photo #1

Buzz – i took have an LRPS . Good company !
I vote for Photo 3 as it’s a nice bold imagine, with a more detailed imagine within.
all great though – no wonder tref had trouble choosing
Vote #9
Photo 3 gets my vote, but I think 6, 8 and 10 are great too.
Photo 3 🙂
photo #9
I vote for 10!
Some of these are superb. Nice work. Number 7 gets my vote.
Vote for photo9 and Photo 12
I vote for #14 as it’s simple but also, in a way, tells a little story of escape.
Photo 2 for me… it shows how beautiful our British Countryside can be on an early morning (at least I hope it is on our shores).
Great pics….but I’m gonna vote for #2
Photo 3 for me as great composition
My vote is for photo #3
Photo #2
Vot for number 3
Vote for number 3 please Tref :-).
I vote number 9. It’s lovely; I would have that up in my house!
I vote for photo 3 black and white with excellent reflection in the lense captured!
Photo #7 – It’s gotta be London…
All really great shots….
Bryn
If you click on #7 it enlarges and you will see that the O2 dome and the Olympic stadium are very visible.
Photo #2 for me!
Numer 3 – looks like summer which seems a long way away!
vote for 3
Photo 3!
I vote for Picture 2
Photo 3 is the shot. Great composition and what an attractive nose !
Number 2 for me. The location looks really familiar 🙂
I vote #2
I vote number 2
number 9 please.
Number 2 has my vote.. This is a one off scene you will never get the exact photo again…
I’ll update the scores in the morning. We have a case of suspected voting fraud with those last few votes for #9 !:) The email addresses used are too similar. Currently looks as if #2 has just edged into the lead. If you have a photo on the shortlist there is still plenty of time to rally your friends to get them to vote.
I would vote number 3.
Photo 8.
I really like the honey colours of the subject and the contrast of the green nettles. The light and balance is just right.
Often fungi are often pictured as darkness and decay however the light brightness of this picture gives a new perspective.
I’ve removed four votes from number 9 as they came from the same person. There is no need to try it on. Just get your friends to vote for your pic.
Numbers 2 and 3 are neck and neck at the moment. Number 9 still has a good number of votes and 6 is still in 4th though its vote count hasn’t changed recently.
Photo 2 has my vote 🙂
14.
Photo 6
The detail is amazing when you consider its just a phone, and is just old hardware engineering meeting 21st century engineering.
7, 11, 12 and 14 for me. And if I can only have one vote, it would be 7. Amazing to think that these are camera phone images!
I’m voting for number 2 🙂
Photo 6 for me
Number 1 seems to be under-appreciated in the vote. I love the rain soaked near deserted street, a terrace of mixed history low-rise architecture juxtaposed with an edifice which looks like it has erupted from the ground like something from a science fiction epic and has summoned the blazing light in the sky.
Photo 2 is my favourite 🙂
photo 2 is so beautiful!!!
Photo 2 for the mystery
I love number 2, reminds me of early mornings in Norfolk.
I vote for number 3.
I vote for number 3.
I vote for number 3.
I vote for number 3
Photo 4 gets my vote
My vote is no. 3
Tough one. Undecided between the tranquility and serene scene in 4 – it looks idylic or the clarity and composition of 3 and the heavy bias I have to it being Trent Bridge and cricket related…. Hmmm I also like the athletisism and energy in 12 though.
My vote is for pic 3 with pic 12 a close second.
All excellent shots though!
If it helps the local voters pic 3 was taken by someone from Lincoln and pic by someone from Newark. I will reveal their identities at the end of the competition but I’m sure that Newark dwellers wouldn’t want to be beaten by Lincoln and vice versa 🙂
What a fabulous selection of photographs. I like 9 and 11 especially.
But my vote goes to photo 14. A fab shot that simply pulls on something inside my heart – the sea, the sand, bare feet…
I vote No. 14
Number 2 is the standout one for me. Lovely image that was probably just right place, right time.
Zoe & Emma – I’m surprised 14 hasn’t had more votes. There is quite a bit of thinking involved with that photo. The footprint as an impermanent impression in the sand, the waves about to wipe out all evidence…
I vote for 6
Number 3 !
My vote goes to photograph no 2.
My vote is for number 12!
The winner is number two by a short nose – well done to Will Curtis. I’ll sort out the prize when I get back from holidays. :))
