My oldest boy Tom who is a good lad and is at Warwick University is coming up to contract renewal time on his mobile phone. He currently has an iPhone4 (I know very impressionable these youngsters) and is pondering an iPhone5 but a) it is more than he really wants to pay (good boy) and b) he can’t get 4G where he lives anyway.
His current phone would actually do him were it not for the fact that the connector socket is not working properly and he wants to stream stuff onto his TV.
His mobile phone company just rang to tempt him with a free handset upgrade if he renews his contract. He was offered a BlackBerry! I know not which one. What do readers think he should do? Should he accept the offer as a great deal or should he bide his time?
Suggestions in the usual way…

I think he should bide his time.
The ‘suggested upgrade’ was a BlackBerry Bold 9900. Bold being the operative word…
Accept the upgrade sell the blackberry as a new phone and fix iphone via http://www.ifixphone.co.uk
IPHONE 5 – its a no brainer 😉
4G or no 4G, it still will be a great and fast device. Plus uni is all about having the flashest phones and you cant go better than an iPhone 5!
Seriously there are some decent competitors like the Nokia Lumia 920 – i was pleasantly surprised how slick it was. As for BlackBerry, I would wait until the BlackBerry 10 OS is out but we could be waiting ages for that. Samsung are good devices but their build quality lets them down.
Or of course fix old phone and go for a cheaper bundle.
Given that RIM are expeiriancing ‘issues’ across the whole of Europe this morning and that I have just picked up my very nice looking iPhone5… which is fully functional. I know where my choice would be.
Be original, go for the Blackberry
I am sure Warwick will get 4G in 2013, can he suffer on 3G until then?
I would think cash is more his concern than speed of cellular data access so I imagine he will wait.
Android. SGS3 or GNex or HTC One X
